Sign the Petition to Support the Dyslexia Task Force Act!

My Dyslexia Task Force Act, A.2185-B/S.441-C, passed the Assembly and Senate!

The bill will establish a statewide task force to examine appropriate and effective evidence-based screening, intervention, and support for students with and at risk of dyslexia and dysgraphia. This is the result of years of work and advocacy and represents the first major piece of legislation focused on dyslexia screening, curriculum, and teacher training that has ever passed in New York, so let's make sure the Senate passes this bill!

This legislation will mandate the Commissioner of the State Education Department to create a task force of educators, doctors, researchers, parents and advocates to examine and recommend the appropriate and evidence based screening methods, curriculum changes and teacher training that should be implemented for all students in kindergarten through 5th grade with dyslexia and dysgraphia.

Sign the petition to let the Governor know she should sign it into law!

I was very fortunate to receive the right education for my dyslexia as a child. It was the single most important experience of my life. It set the foundation for my academic, personal and professional success.

I ABSOLUTELY support this; it needs to be a mandate to have the screening done early.

Yes, every child should be screened for learning difficulties before entering kindergarten.

Please fix this! We paid for private testing because the school failed to identify our son’s reading problems and then paid Windward to teach him how to read. Not everbody can afford intervention like this and it just isn’t fair.

My sons both struggle with processing disorders. They have attended some of the best private schools in Manhattan throughout their educational career. Despite many attempts to explain to these schools that my sons could not read, nothing was done by them to help. Fortunately, I have the means to be an advocate and voice for my children and we found The Windward School. Many others afflicted with learning disorders do not. We see this every day in my foundation. I can not urge you enough to screen at the kindergarten years. More often than not, when LDs go undetected, self esteem is destroyed leading to many issues currently plaguing our country.
