Sign the Petition to Support the Dyslexia Task Force Act!

My Dyslexia Task Force Act, A.2185-B/S.441-C, passed the Assembly and Senate!

The bill will establish a statewide task force to examine appropriate and effective evidence-based screening, intervention, and support for students with and at risk of dyslexia and dysgraphia. This is the result of years of work and advocacy and represents the first major piece of legislation focused on dyslexia screening, curriculum, and teacher training that has ever passed in New York, so let's make sure the Senate passes this bill!

This legislation will mandate the Commissioner of the State Education Department to create a task force of educators, doctors, researchers, parents and advocates to examine and recommend the appropriate and evidence based screening methods, curriculum changes and teacher training that should be implemented for all students in kindergarten through 5th grade with dyslexia and dysgraphia.

Sign the petition to let the Governor know she should sign it into law!

John Russell As a former public school superintendent and as the current head of The Windward School, I am absolutely certain that this initiative will help all students become better readers, writers and spellers.

This is long overdue. Every child should be screened.

My nephews went undiagnosed for years. Their struggles caused a great deal of stress for the entire family and made my nephews feel defeated. Not good for their confidence. Early diagnosis will open a whole new world for those with dyslexia and give them opportunities that they may not ever get if not diagnosed and treated early. People with Dyslexia are smart! They just need the tools.

Please! We need more teachers to be certified in Orton and we need more schools to teach in a way dyslexics learn!!! We are struggling and paying too much out of our pockets.
